A Rainy Wedding Day

There are many things that can be planned to perfection but unfortunately the weather isn’t one if them. Especially in the UK, it can be unpredictable and even if you have planned a beautiful outdoor wedding, mother nature may have different plans for you. As a result you could have a rainy wedding day.

A Rainy Wedding Day – Top Tips

The one thing you cant stop is the rain so we have come up with some ideas and tips to make sure the rainy weather doesn’t ruin your big day.

Be Prepared – Shelter

Check the weather a week before your wedding day and keep any eye on it. Now is the time to make any necessary changes for example if you have planned for you ceremony to be outdoors, organise to have some extra cover or seek an alternative area.

If you are having a marquee wedding, ask for advise and perhaps add some hard flooring and some walkways. The overall size of the marquee can also be increased to allow for a covered reception drinks area. Accessorise the interior with with decorations such as upside down hanging umbrellas.

Photographer

Contact your photographer and discuss some wet weather options. Plan to have your main family photos inside before heading out. You may be able to get some fun shots in the rain and you never know, you might even see a rainbow.

Wedding Dress & Bridesmaid Dresses

Either plan ahead just in case by opting for a shorter style or have a back up plan. Alternatively make sure you have an underskirt that can be pinned up to avoid the puddles.

Accessories

Umbrellas and Wellies, these are the two must haves for a rainy wedding day.

Match them to your colour scheme or go for something really funky. Heart shaped brollies, brightly coloured or why not even a flamingo. A great idea is to have buckets or baskets full so your guests can help themselves if they didn’t come prepared. This will also make a great shot for the wedding album.

Why not equip your bridesmaids and groomsmen with matching pairs of wellies. They are great practical accessories and don’t need to cost a lot. Hide a sneaky pair of blue boots under your wedding dress to keep your feet dry. This could also double up as your “something blue”.

Make The Most of It

Try to make a bit of a joke of the weather by getting your DJ or band to play rain related songs such as;

  • Rihanna – Umbrella
  • Adele – Set fire to the rain
  • Travis – Why Does It Always Rain On Me?
  • Gene Kelly – Singing in the Rain
  • Eurythmics – Here Comes The Rain Again

The most important thing to remember is to enjoy the day and make the most of it whatever the weather.
